What Does the Bible Really Say?
As both the word of God and the word of man, the Bible is revered by many and rejected by others. It is studied, memorized, and preached. Just as it's misquoted, misunderstood, and misused. The first book ever printed (in 1454), the Bible is the best selling book of all time. Yet like many other best-sellers, not everyone who buys it actually reads it. And for some who do read it, the Bible becomes not a guide but a stumbling block on their spiritual journey.
Disagreement often breeds doubt. And with anything as ubiquitous as the Bible, disagreement is virtually unavoidable. The combination of not knowing and disagreements about what we think we do know leads to misconceptions that have, in some cases, become myths. Myths that some people believe without question because they've head them for so long. These common misconceptions make it even more difficult to try to get as close to the truth as we can.
